Stablecoin Regulation Advances in Senate Amid Crypto Security Concerns

The U.S. Senate has taken a significant step toward regulating the stablecoin sector with the GENIUS Act clearing a critical hurdle in a 66-32 vote. The legislation, which could become the most consequential digital asset law to date, sets the stage for a full-floor debate. Earlier opposition from Democratic lawmakers over potential conflicts tied to former President Trump’s crypto investments has softened following revisions addressing bipartisan concerns, including anti-money laundering provisions.

The debate around crypto wallet security and user protection is intensifying as Washington moves closer to establishing guardrails for the fast-growing stablecoin market. Over 15 Democrats reversed their stance after anti-money laundering provisions were added, though Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer remained opposed.
